The My Heart, His Home Challenge
“I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”
Ephesians 3:16-19 NLT
There are 6 months left in 2022. Did you start the year wanting to grow closer to God? Have you been feeling like you need to make steps to do that recently? Have you walked away from Church, but know you need to seek Jesus? The My Heart, Your Home Challenge is a 21 Day challenge to encourage believers, almost believers, and used to be believers to seek the Heart and Voice of God in their lives and homes. It is for you to take steps to trust in Him and invite Him to make your Heart His HOME! This is all about relationship with the Father that is personal and not dependent on someone else’s belief or opinion. Let’s go to the source!
During the pandemic, church buildings were closed. Nothing was normal. As I sat at home, I wondered what do I have left without my normal church activity, what if there was no livestreamed sermon or worship? Did I have a relationship with Jesus outside of church?
Maybe the pandemic didn’t challenge your belief but there was “Church Hurt.” I have been there and I had to ask myself “Will I allow people or religion to keep me from Jesus?” “Can I walk away from church all together when I know in my bones that Jesus is real?”
We have to do our part in fostering a relationship with Christ, just like with a friend or loved one. If you love them, you get to know them. If you know a little bit about them, and want to love them, you get to know them. When we do this, we won’t allow external factors to pull us away from Him!
Some of us may not know where to start. The task could seem daunting or just weird. Jesus loves you. Just as you are right now, let’s take some steps together to learn of that love.
What we will commit to for 21 days from July 1st through July 21st:
1. Spend 5 Minutes a day seeking Jesus for yourself through Scripture. – Five minutes! Reading the Bible could already be routine for you. For others reading this, it’s not routine at all, and that’s ok. Let’s commit! Starting here can be the beginning of fresh revelation and an increasing interest in the Word. I recommend starting in the book of John.
2. Pray and Worship for the length of your favorite worship song. – Prayer connects us to God. “But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything will reward you.” Matthew 6:6. Jesus often left the disciples to go and pray. Taking the step to talk to your Father, to stop to listen to Him, and even sing out to him during this time is a great place to start.
That’s it! That is the challenge! My prayer is that these small steps will encourage you to make bigger ones. That you’re encouraged to give your life and heart to Jesus! That you decide to go and find a church to join. That you connect to community. This challenge is beyond your normal Sunday Service worship and sermon, it is your daily pursuit as Christ followers. This challenge is to make your heart His home. You can even complete this challenge with your household to take this journey together.
When Jesus makes our heart his home, no matter where we are He is with us. No matter what is happening, we are grounded in His word and His love. When we make room for Him, accept him into our heart, and open our hearts to the Holy Spirit we build that relationship.
